The contractor who runs remodels like an engineer.
Golden State Construction is the second career of a man who spent twenty years making complex systems run on time and on budget, and then decided homes deserved the same.
From foundation to finish
OUR STORY
01
The engineer
For nearly two decades, our founder, Avi, mastered the art of efficiency, precision, and problem-solving. As a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, his career was defined by eliminating waste, reducing defects, and engineering systems and processes that operated flawlessly. Yet, no amount of professional experience could have fully prepared him for the chaos of building his own dream home.
02
The dream home
When Avi and his family decided to settle in Palos Verdes Estates, it was the culmination of years of hard work: building a custom home here marked the realization of a vision years in the making. Initially, Avi approached the project like any homeowner: he hired a general contractor.
03
The breaking point
That decision quickly turned excitement into frustration. Avi was met with missed deadlines, opaque budgets, poor workmanship, and endless excuses. Dealing with a revolving door of contractors who promised professionalism but delivered disappointment, he realized the traditional construction process was fundamentally broken. There was no process control, no quality standard, no transparency, and, worst of all, no trust.
04
Taking over
Instead of accepting the status quo, Avi did something bold: he took over. Firing the underperforming teams, he stepped in as an owner-builder and assumed full responsibility for the project. While construction wasn't his original industry, process improvement was. He immediately applied his Six Sigma expertise to the build: mapping out every phase, identifying and eliminating inefficiencies, creating strict accountability systems for subcontractors, and standardizing quality checks at every step. Chaos turned into structure. Delays turned into momentum. Uncertainty turned into control. Piece by piece, his family's dream home finally took shape.
05
Golden State
By the time the house was complete, Avi realized the construction industry didn't just suffer from a few bad actors; it had a systemic problem: a massive gap between what homeowners expected and what contractors actually delivered. Determined to bridge that gap, Avi studied the trades, earned his general contractor license, and founded Golden State Construction. His goal wasn't just to build beautiful homes. It was to rebuild trust.
